As I scroll through my social media feed, I often come across glimpses of the vibrant New Year celebrations among my Muslim friends. Perhaps you’ve seen them too or maybe even partake in the festivities. It’s intriguing, isn’t it? Perhaps it’s our innate inclination to celebrate, to revel in the joy of illuminated decorations, cherished gifts, and a kaleidoscope of colors. Yet, amidst these fleeting moments of festivity, let’s not overlook the enduring beauty of the 30 sacred days that await us every year. Ramadan, a time of spiritual renewal and reflection, offers us an opportunity to not only deepen our devotion but also to instill in our children a love for this blessed month. Let us embrace this season of worship and nurture within our families a lasting appreciation for the treasures hidden within each day of Ramadan.
“Ramaḍân is the month in which the Quran was revealed as a guide for humanity with clear proofs of guidance and the standard ˹to distinguish between right and wrong˺. So whoever is present this month, let them fast. But whoever is ill or on a journey, then ˹let them fast˺ an equal number of days ˹after Ramaḍân˺. Allah intends ease for you, not hardship, so that you may complete the prescribed period and proclaim the greatness of Allah for guiding you, and perhaps you will be grateful.”
Baqarah 185
AND
“It is the believers˺ who repent, who are devoted to worship, who praise ˹their Lord˺, who fast, who bow down and prostrate themselves, who encourage good and forbid evil, and who observe the limits set by Allah. And give good news to the believers.”
Surah At-Tawbah 112
